The Project
A full-service venue system, built for artists, operators, and everything in between.
When Tahoe Aleworx acquired The Alpine, they weren’t just opening another music venue — they were reimagining what a mid-sized concert and event space could mean for Reno. They came to Starsound with a clear ask: help us build a place that can go from Sunday football to Friday night DJ sets to Saturday headliners — without compromising on quality at any level.
The vision was ambitious. The system had to be powerful enough to meet touring artist tech riders but intuitive enough for a restaurant manager to run a game-day stream with ease. It had to sound pristine, look dynamic, and work seamlessly across the venue’s indoor stage, restaurant space, and DJ booth. And above all, it had to feel like a true performance-ready space that wouldn’t overwhelm the teams using it day-to-day.
Starsound stepped in to design a system that matched that ambition — meeting technical requirements while respecting the budget, workflow, and long-term goals of the client. With a focus on flexibility, control, and aesthetic integration, we delivered a solution that not only fits the space but enhances every experience it hosts, from intimate acoustic sets to packed-out shows with full production.
Today, The Alpine stands as one of the city’s most well-equipped independent venues — with a system that sounds as good as it looks, and a team behind it that’s always ready to adapt and evolve. Because that’s what our community deserves, and what we’ve promised to deliver for fifty years.
Creative + Technical Highlights
Artist-Ready, Operator-Friendly: We engineered a system powerful enough to satisfy national touring riders while staying approachable for non-technical staff. With intuitive routing, prebuilt scenes, and smart labeling, the Midas M32 console empowers The Alpine’s in-house team to switch from football to frontman with ease.
Venue-Wide Integration: From the bar to the booth to the backline, this install was designed to sync — not just coexist. We built an ecosystem that connects FOH, DJ, and background zones with minimal cable clutter and maximum flexibility.
Scalable Audio Design: The JBL SRX906 line array and SRX928 subs deliver clarity, punch, and even coverage across the entire venue — scaled perfectly for the room’s size and shape. Whether it's a 4-piece indie band or a 12-channel hip-hop set, the sound holds up and fills out without overwhelming.
Immersive Visual Atmosphere: The Absen video wall provides a dynamic visual backdrop for performances, brand activations, and content takeovers — while also doubling as a practical tool for sports, local programming, or digital signage during restaurant hours.
Lighting With Personality: A full ADJ rig anchored by Jolt Panels, Focus Flex Washes, and Hybrids brings creative range to every show. Paired with an Avolites Quartz console, the system allows for rich color work, precise cueing, and reactive effects that elevate even the simplest sets into visual experiences.
Built for Longevity, Not Just Launch: Every system we design comes with future flexibility in mind. From expansion ports to scalable patching, The Alpine’s system was built to grow with the venue, not just meet the needs of its opening week.
Client Collaboration
When Tahoe Aleworx came to us with the vision for The Alpine, it wasn’t just about putting gear in a room — it was about building something that would work for them. Something that would scale with their programming, flex with their staffing, and feel as intuitive for their team as it did professional for the artists walking in the door.
From the very beginning, the relationship was collaborative. We didn’t arrive with a one-size-fits-all blueprint — we asked questions. We toured the space. We listened. And then we started designing a system that balanced technical ambition with real-world usability.
They wanted the room to feel show-ready, but they didn’t want to need a tech crew just to run Thursday Night Football. So we gave them simplified control where they needed it, and full production capability where it mattered. Every cable, every patch, every lighting cue was planned with intention — and with an eye toward keeping the venue’s identity intact.
But it didn’t stop there.
Since the system went live, our team has continued to support The Alpine in whatever way they need — whether that’s honoring pre-planned labor agreements for larger events, or offering on-call system health checks when outside engineers come through. We’ve even stepped in to help them vet gear and crew when they’re working with new technical partners. Because we’re not just protecting our install — we’re invested in their success.
At Starsound, we don’t gatekeep knowledge. We don’t nickel-and-dime clients for every cable reroute or signal flow question. We build systems so that people can use them — and we stand behind that promise. That’s what makes it work. That’s what keeps the Alpine running smoothly, show after show.

The Impact
Through 30+ years of collaboration, Hot August Nights has grown into a nationally recognized celebration — and we’ve been proud to help power its evolution. What began as a simple sound setup is now a multi-venue, layered technology production backed by a deep relationship built on trust, flexibility, and creative momentum.
