Client Collaboration
At Starsound, we don’t see installs as the end of a project — they’re the beginning of a partnership. Reno Public Market is a perfect example of that. After we reimagined and implemented a sound system that truly fit their space, our relationship with the founders didn’t pause at handoff. It evolved.
We’re now working side by side with them on their next great project, located just off Oddie Boulevard — a new space that carries the same spirit of local creativity, mixed-use innovation, and bold vision that made RPM such a standout for Reno’s cultural scene.
It’s not just about speakers and lighting. It’s about trust. It’s about the confidence our partners have in knowing that we’ll bring creative solutions, collaborative energy, and deep community understanding to the table — every time. These are relationships that last years, not weeks. Projects we help shape from concept to completion — and beyond.
Because at Starsound, we don’t just build systems. We help build the kind of spaces that make our city more vibrant, more connected, and more alive with possibility.

The Project
By the time Starsound was called in, Reno Public Market was already open, busy, and bustling with activity. But something wasn’t quite right — the sound wasn’t working the way it needed to. The system in place struggled to match the scale and acoustics of the space, leaving both the audience and operators with frustration rather than fidelity.
We came in not to start over — but to fix what wasn’t working. Listening first, we assessed the needs of the space and the team: how the stage played into the architecture, how the sound carried (or didn’t) through the venue, and how the audio could serve both performance and ambiance without compromising either.
Working alongside our partners at JBL, we helped redesign the system to deliver on all fronts: focused clarity for the main viewing areas, controlled coverage across the upper and lower floors of the mezzanine, and just the right amount of energy without overwhelming the food hall experience.
And when a new challenge emerged — a brewery preparing to move into the space directly behind the stage — we didn’t blink. We adjusted the plan in real time, introducing cardioid-configured speaker arrays that minimized rear bleed without sacrificing the mix in the house. The result was a system designed for coexistence — sound that filled the space, but respected its edges.
After the install, we handed the reins to their on-site technician with confidence — delivering a system that was built not only to perform, but to be operated and maintained in-house. Because for us, an install isn’t just about solving today’s problems. It’s about building something that works for years to come — for the venue, the team, and the entire community it serves.
The Impact
Through 30+ years of collaboration, Hot August Nights has grown into a nationally recognized celebration — and we’ve been proud to help power its evolution. What began as a simple sound setup is now a multi-venue, layered technology production backed by a deep relationship built on trust, flexibility, and creative momentum. This is what it looks like when production meets partnership — and when great events are built to last.
