Offbeat Festival

Offbeat Music Festival

A wild idea, a street lined with performances, and a partnership that makes it all sing.

The Partnership

Before the first note was played, before the crowds gathered on West Fourth Street, and before the lighting was turned on, there was a question: Could this really work? The Offbeat Music Festival had spent years as a beloved, scattered celebration across Midtown Reno. But with growing pains came real challenges — audiences unsure where to go, performances running late, a sense of momentum often interrupted by distance.

That’s when Offbeat founder Flip reached out to Starsound. He wanted to move the entire festival to West Fourth Street, build it bigger, tighter, more coordinated, and more impactful. He needed more than gear — he needed a partner who could wrangle dozens of artists, align multiple venues, and bring the same vibe and energy to each space. Having just helped set up the new Alpine venue and with a proven track record of festivals in the neighborhood, we were ready.

Flip, however, wasn’t so sure.

He told us later that he thought we were “blowing smoke” when we agreed — without hesitation — to every ambitious, logistically tangled request he threw at us. Yeah, we can make that work, we said every time. He wasn’t used to that kind of calm confidence.

But then the music started.

And everything ran. On time. In sync. In style.
By the end of day one, trust had taken root — and a real partnership had begun.

Year-by-Year Evolution

Before Starsound

  • Multi-venue festival stretched across Midtown with little infrastructure support

  • Complaints about lack of accurate performance schedules, unclear venue routing, and inconsistent production quality

2024: The New Era

  • Full relocation to West Fourth Street

  • Starsound engaged to provide audio, lighting, staging, video coordination, and full production logistics

  • Seamless artist rotation and multi-stage management across The Alpine, Black Rabbit Mead Co., and temporary outdoor stages

  • Real-time schedule coordination, crew dispatch, and tech continuity across every site

  • Flip: “I wasn’t sure if it was possible — until it was already working.”

2025 and Beyond

  • Flip has invited Owner Nick Sorrentino to join the nonprofit board behind Offbeat as its production advisor, recognizing the role Starsound now plays in shaping the future of the festival

  • Plans to expand stage count, scale audience experience, and refine live capture and video integration

  • Continuing the mantra: if the idea sounds crazy, we’re probably going to say yes

Creative + Technical Highlights

  • Coordinated multi-venue festival production

  • Indoor and outdoor stage builds with consistent gear standards

  • FOH + monitor engineers deployed across venues

  • Artist support across diverse genres, tech needs, and backline arrangements

  • Stage plots and run-of-show schedules built to match artist logistics

  • Ongoing planning for 2024 expansion, including video capture and enhanced lighting design

Client Collaboration

From skepticism to boardroom — Flip’s journey with Starsound is the kind we love. Not because it proves we’re good at what we do (though, yes, it does), but because it proves what’s possible when a creative visionary finds a team that actually listens, leans in, and says yes. The trust we’ve built is real. And the work we do together now is sharper, smarter, and a whole lot more fun.

Gear + Services Provided

  • Audio: Full PA systems, monitors, FOH engineering across stages

  • Lighting: Venue-specific lighting rigs + pop-up stage packages

  • Staging: Mobile and modular indoor/outdoor systems

The Impact

Offbeat is exactly what its name promises — off-center, off-script, and unforgettable. What it needed was a production partner who could match its spirit without losing its structure. Starsound stepped in and made it sing. Now heading into our second year with Off Beat, we’re building bigger, dreaming louder, and helping this homegrown festival feel like a main stage event — while keeping its wild soul completely intact.

"Starsound didn’t just make it possible — they made it work, and made it better than I imagined.”
— Flip, Founder | Off Beat Music Festival
